Grace Fulfills the Law

LAW

I highly respect the Old Covenant Law.

Some of you may be thinking, “Um, Jess are you feeling okay? Aren’t you constantly telling us not to live by the Law, to forsake a Law mindset, and that the Law is no good for us?”

Yep. That’s right. And I teach that because of my high view of the Law. I view it, like Jesus did, as a high standard that requires perfection and accepts no half measures or partial participation. I believe in radical grace because I believe in perfect Law. In fact, the perfect Law is what pointed me to my great need for rescue outside of my own efforts. It was a shadow and now my reality is Christ (Heb 10:1). This is its purpose. Paul tells us in Galatians that the Law was our babysitter, our guardian, until Christ came, but now that Christ has come, we are no longer under the guardian (Gal 3:24-25). Now that Dad has come home to our hearts, a babysitter is no longer necessary.

Grace has not forsaken the requirement, chosen to hate the Law, or lowered the standard. Grace has slipped into human skin, stretched its arms wide to meet every requirement, and then come to live in us so that every righteous requirement of the Law would be FULFILLED in us (Rom 8:4).

The Law was great for its time, but Jesus in us is a better deal. (Heb 8:6)

Don't settle for performative religion when you have Christ in you as the source of your goodness.
