Grace Overflow

GRACE THEOLOGY

This is one of my very favorite verses. There is a great fear within the church that teaching radical grace will cause people to go wild with sin. Yet, here we have Paul, writing to Corinth (arguably the most "wild with sin" church there was) teaching them that what inspires good behavior is the overflow of grace. I imagine if Paul was in any way worried about grace causing more sin, he certainly would have picked a different message to teach the Corinthians! Instead, he presents the truth to them and also to us. God's fullness overflows with grace, filling us to overflow, so that we might spill over with goodness onto those around us. Grace is full, not measured out. Grace is extravagant, not careful. And thank God for that (literally)! Because it is our only hope for overcoming the sin that seeks to bind us and it is the source of our love for those around us.
